Today we did another project in Microsoft Excel. This time we were given a series of grades for seven students. We used several of the built in formulas in Excel to find various statistics about the grades. We used the average, minimum, and maximum functions. We then used the handle to basically copy the formula from the first grade to the rest of the grades. This is a huge time saver.
We then created formulas to find the range and the weighted average. Both of the formulas were pretty easy to make. Properly formatting the formula using parenthesis was the hardest part. It was also the easiest way to mess up the project.
We also used the built in if formula to input the proper grade. We used the help menu to search for the formula and to find some example of how to use it to in put grades. It was very helpful to have the example to guide me. I was a bit lost on how to use more than one if function in the same cell.
We then formatted the worksheet by adding a background color to the cells and borders around each cell. This process was really easy also.
Lastly we uploaded the document to Googel Docs and published it as a web page. Click here to view the publish worksheet. We also emailed the document as an attachment.
Today's assignment relates to Standard 1. "engage students in exploring real-world issues and solving authentic problems using digital tools and resources." I learned how to use Excel, it's various built in formulas, as well as original formulas to track class scores on assignments and tests and to quickly find students averages and give letter grades.
