The numbers talk to me...

Today we used excel to analize data and then make a chart.  We were given test scores for 71 students.  We then had to use the custom sort and the count and average functions to determine the number of students in each group and their average scores.  Then we used a ttest funtion to determine whether the difference in scores was significant or not.  Then we made a chart comparing the scores of the different classifications.

Like I said in my last post, most of this was a review for me, but it was a needed one.  I don't do much in Excel outside of school so my skills were a bit rusty.  Though, the T-test and moving a chart to a new table were both new skills for me.

I also learned about some of the glitches that Google Docs has.  It is convient to be able to upload and edit documents from one sight, but the changes in formating would make it hard to do much editing on a project of any complexity.  I've also noticed that there is a lag when typing using Google Docs Word.  Hopefully as time goes on Google will resolve these issues.

This relates to Standard 1. b. "engage students in exploring real-world issues and solving authentic problems using digital tools and resources."  This project taught us how to use Excel to easily analize large amounts of data.
