Today we did an activity where we mapped our locations using Geobatch. The first thing we did was use Google Docs to edit a spreed sheet template. Since the document had been shared via Google Docs every one was able to edit the document at the same time. It was very neat seeing every one editing the document in real time. The chat room for those viewing the document was also pretty neat. These features would make long distance collaboration so much easier.
After everyone put their data in I copy and pasted it into the box that said step one on the batchgeo website (batchgeo.com). I then clicked on the "MAP IT". After a little bit churning the web site gave me a spiffy map with little markers for each person in the class. I then clicked on the Share/save/embed button. I then gave it a title, made it public, entered my email address, and then saved it. This resulted in a web page with my map on it and an email in my inbox. The email included the code needed to embed the map. You can click here to view it as a web page.
This relates to Standard 1. d. "model collaborative knowledge construction by engaging in learning with students, colleagues, and others in face-to-face and virtual environments." We collaborated in getting the all of the addresses we needed into one space. We also learned about tools that would help inprove our virtual collaboration skills.
